Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain was present as the selection was made through lottery system at Eskaton on Wednesday.He said the winners would be notified through SMS to the cell phone numbers they had provided while getting registered.According to him, the first lot of workers will leave Bangladesh for Malaysia in the first week of March.

Of the selected, 3,646 were from Dhaka division, 2,287 from Chittagong, 1,551 from Rajshahi, 1,362 from Rangpur, 761 from Barisal, 1,279 from Khulna and 873 from Sylhet.Malaysia decided to hire workers from Bangladesh after a pause of five years. The two countries signed a deal in this regard on Oct 22 last year.Now workers can travel to Malaysia for work only under the government-to-government arrangement.

“A total of 30,000 workers will be sent to Malaysia. As many as 10,000 will go in the first phase, followed by the second phase of 20,000.”
The first batch of workers was selected from 34,500 applicants selected randomly through online lottery.
